My Background
Hi, I’m Becci, mum to one incredible and energetic toddler, certified sleep coach specialising in babies, children and neurodiverse sleep needs and experienced primary school and special needs teacher.
I have been working with children since taking my A’Levels and heading off to university to complete my B.Ed in Primary Education.
I trained in Plymouth undertaking placements in schools across the city and on the outskirts of Taunton and took part in a pilot scheme for the university with a placement in a special school for pupils with profound and multiple learning difficulties.
I returned to my hometown of Bristol after qualifying and my early years of teaching were spent in 2 lovely mainstream schools in North Somerset and Bristol working across Key Stages in Year 2, 4 and 6. I then made the move to special needs and started my autism specialist path at a brand new school in South Gloucestershire before my most recent post; leading a new resource base for pupils with autism and complex needs within a school for children with Social and Emotional Mental Health needs. Over the years I have built up my knowledge through extensive training in areas including autism and anxiety, child mental health, attachment theory, safeguarding and behaviour management. I led across many areas of the curriculum and more recently completed an NPQ in Leading Teacher Development and was the tutor and mentor for Early Career Teachers helping me to transfer my teaching skills to successfully coaching adults.
Why Sleep Coaching?
I know the impact that sleep has on your day. As a sleep deprived parent, I wanted to have more energy to enjoy the days with my little one. As a baby who had reflux, he struggled to be put down on his back and would wake every 2 hours if not more. I spent my time (mainly at 3am) researching how to help my little one sleep better and got confused by the conflicting advice I was reading.
I was looking for a different career path that gave me more flexibility to spend with my family but I love working with children and their families and want to move away from my areas of interest and specialism. Building those relationships and seeing families flourish is the best feeling in the world. So I decided to put my new ‘obsession’ with sleep psychology together with my expertise in autism and trained to become a certified sleep consultant for babies and children and at the same time become certified as an autism and anxiety sleep coach- because why not do it all at once?!
My Sleep Philosophy
My dream is for all parents to feel supported to move forward in their sleep journey using gentle methods based on research that fit the family’s values and parenting styles.
The early years of parenthood go by so quickly and I don’t want anyone to feel like they have missed out on any of those precious moments because they are too sleep deprived to fully enjoy and embrace them.
I want children to feel in control of their bodies and emotions; to know that it isn’t their fault that they find sleep tough and that by working together they can have happier days, build positive relationships, enjoy their time in school and understand how to listen to their body and it’s needs.
There is no such thing as ‘perfect sleep’, but it can be improved, and I am here to help your family to get the best sleep possible ensuring your child can develop, grow and reach their full potential.
